Lowering Your Car Insurance

Posted on the July 7th, 2012 under Auto Insurance by

If you are looking to purchase a new car or you simply want to get a better rate for your car insurance, you have a number of options. There are several companies today that claim to offer the lowest possible rate for the insurance that you need to protect you while driving. Getting the lowest rate however is not simply about which company you choose. There are a number of indicators that you have to consider when shopping for car insurance.

The actual vehicle that you are insurance has a major impact on the cost of your automobile insurance. The make, model, safety features and the history of the vehicle are all taken into consideration when your rates are set. An older car will be less expensive to replace so if you are buying full coverage insurance you may find that this is a less expensive option.

Your driving record will also affect your insurance rates. If you have never been involved in an automobile accident and have never had a traffic citation, your rates should be relatively low. If they are not, it may be time to research other companies and see what other options are available to you. Another good way to lower your insurance rates is to carefully choose your premium. If you want a lower monthly rate then a higher premium will be the best choice. You can also typically lower the overall rate if you pay your premium annually as opposed to monthly.

Make sure that you are using the same company for all of your vehicles. If possible, combine your other insurance needs as well. Most insurance companies offer coverage for vehicles as well as boats and motorcycles and even homes in some cases. If you use the same company for all of your insurance products then you will likely receive a discount for multiple coverage.

Finally, you have to take the time to compare companies and rates. There are a number of online tools that enable you to compare different companies and different insurance products. If you prefer not to use these tools you can still call insurance companies and get quotes directly. Use these quotes to determine which company offers the lowest cost. Be sure that you fully understand what is included in your policy. Getting a cheap rate for your insurance is not going to be helpful if you are not getting the coverage that you need.
